A spectacular site overlooking Donegal Bay created the need to maximise the views from as many spaces within the building as possible. The exposure of the site also required the creation of a private space, sheltered from the elements while the dramatic nature of the site called for a matching design statement. A tower which provides the vertical link between floors was set in the centre of the tranquil, sheltered space from which five “fingers” thrust out into the bay, each one benefiting from a different view. The building’s substantial footprint and the steep slope of the site required considerable excavation but the result has been to allow the building to settle back into the hillside where integration has been assisted by maintaining most of the original vegetation.
