Our clients approached us seeking a complete renovation of two derelict cottages under one roof in Greencastle, Co. Donegal. A complete transformation of the plan which maintains the original character of the cottages was devised, with a contemporary extension added to the rear of the house.
The extension will house the main living spaces, while the original cottages will form the bedroom wing of the house. The existing central chimney provides the axis for the ridge of the extension’s roof, creating a visually striking off-centre pitched roof. In plan, the existing stone boundary wall is echoed in a glazed recess, providing threshold between inside and out.
