Passive House/ Passivhaus is a rigorous ultra- low energy building standard that was developed in Germany in the early 1990s. It is applicable the world over and is well suited to the Irish climate and building materials. The standard has led to the design of buildings that are so energy efficient that they don’t require conventional heating systems, and as a result much less carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere. The big benefit to a Passive House owner is that running costs are very much lower than for a standard Irish home. We are pleased to say that John Curran of allan.curran.architects.ltd is a qualified Passive House Designer and is currently involved in the design of a number of Passive House standard houses.
