Proposed new home near Milford, Co. Donegal
This proposed family home is situated near Milford, Co. Donegal. Drawing inspiration from the familiar sheds and barns that pepper the Donegal hills and winding roads, the red oxide cladding evokes a sense of our agricultural heritage and is reminiscent of the corrugated steel shed roofs we see so often in rural Ireland.
We progressed through a range of designs, working closely with the client to achieve the familiar barn look, considering material, site context and the views towards the nearby Lough Swilly. The attached renders are an earlier draft however the materiality remains much the same. The white render is a callback to the lime-washed walls often found in these farmyards, and provides a stunning contrast with the red cladding. The sharp, crisp angles provide a modern, cutting edge twist on the local heritage and pave a path through the 2020s and beyond for Irish architecture.
